Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. A child of Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents, and her family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen came to this loving refuge on the 17th of August 1920. She was raised by her parents as well as family members. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing tough sports. She combined this interest with an equally natural gift for performing. As evidenced by receiving nearly every Feis award for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. At the age of 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dreams of classical theater and singing opera.
